What is Breast Enhancement?
Breast enhancement is a surgical procedure designed to enlarge the breasts and give them a different shape whilst at the same time lifting them to restore the fuller appearance of the bust line you might have once had. It is popular as it affects the appearance of the whole body and not just the area around the chest. Whatever your reasons for undergoing the treatment, be it for cosmetic/aesthetic reasons, or perhaps medical/reconstructive reasons, the methods for enhancing the breasts are similar.
The overall method of enhancing the breast might involve the combination of augmentation and uplift. To augment the breast first an incision is made along the natural crease of the breast, in the armpit or around the edge of the areola. The surgeon then places the implant in a pocket he has created through the incision, usually beneath the muscle of the breast tissue with the positioning itself depending on the size and shape of the breast already. To uplift the breast, more incisions are involved and then the surgeon removes the excess skin on the breasts, moves the nipple and areola to a new higher position and the skin that was initially above the areola is moved below it. Once the surgery is complete the surgeon will stitch the incisions with either dissolvable or non-dissolvable sutures. Sometimes they might tape up the sutures for extra support. All of these options will be discussed with your surgeon.
The surgical procedure in general will require you to stay in hospital for a couple of nights (depending on how much work you have carried out, for example breast augmentation alone may only require a single night stay). The operation itself will be carried out using a general anaesthetic.
With breast-related procedures at the height of their popularity, the satisfaction for breast enhancement is also high, with many women finding that the procedure boosts their confidence and improving their quality of life.
